What we do

We currently organize two national scientific competitions: OBC (Brazilian Science Olympiad) and IYPT Brazil (Brazilian Young Physicist' Tournament). We also collaborate on the development of American Junior Science Olympiad, which was founded 2013 in Mendoza, Argentina.

Since 2007, Brazil has been to international competitions in many different countries, such as Taiwan, South Korea, Germany, Thailand, South Africa, India and Argentina, resulting in more than 50 gold, silver and bronze medals.

OBC is the annual edition of the Brazilian Science Olympiad, which seamlessly embraces the three major scientific fields - Physics, Chemistry and Biology - in one unique competition.

This National Competition, which already covers all regions of Brazil, also serves as qualifying for participation on the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) and the American Junior Science Olympiad (AJSO).

IJSO is held every year in an itinerant host country. Nearly 50 countries are represented by students up to 15 years old. AJSO is held yearly in an American country and allows participation of students up to 16 years old.

The international competitions comprises both individual theoretical exams and group experimental exams.

IYPT Brazil

IYPT Brazil is the national version of the traditional International Young Physicists' Tournament, which is held since 1988. Winners of IYPT Brazil are selected to participate on the international competition.

IYPT (also known as "Physics' World Cup") is a team competition which revolves around trying to solve 17 open physics problems that are revealed annually by IYPT's International Committee. Teams can be comprised of up to 5 high school students.

The main feature of this tournament is its unique format of discussion, known as "Physics Fight": each team has to present its own solution in front of an audience and play different roles during the competition - as reporter (who presents its solution), opponent (opposing another team's solution) or reviewer (evaluating other teams' performances). Grades are given by a jury of high-caliber professors of Physics and Engineering from top Brazilian and global universities.
